From the Land Down Under

Born to an American couple in Melbourne, Australia in 1992, Kyrie moved stateside when he was 2 and brought some serious ball with him. … Okay, it took him a few years to develop it, but when he did, major colleges took notice and he headed off to school in Durham, NC. 

The Shoes to Choose

The 6-foot-2 point guard earned Rookie of the Year in 2012 and wore a series of Nike Hyperdunks to kick off his career. He worked his way into six all-star games from 2013-19, missing only 2016 after starting the season late due to injury.

Just before Christmas in December 2014, Nike unveiled the Kyrie 1. Most commonly a mid-cut silhouette since its debut, the series has regularly featured a built-up lateral (outer) outsole meant to provide support in the hard cuts inherent to the point guard position.

And, to bolster that support, the Kyrie 2, 5, and 6 included a broad midfoot strap to lock your foot down to the footbed.

A Variety of Looks

In 2012, Kyrie set out to prove that looks can be deceiving — and to have a little fun along the way — with a soda marketing campaign centered around a character named “Uncle Drew.” 

Kyrie, disguised as an old man, took to the courts of a prominent playground with other pro stars. There, he and his prank-mates would stumble around the court for a bit, lulling their “young blood” opponents into fits of snickers and chuckles, before gradually coming alive and ultimately schooling everyone.

Whether it’s his numbered line or his Flytrap series, signature shoes aren’t the only way to get in touch with fun moments from Kyrie’s career — there’s plenty of Kyrie-themed apparel as well.
