Before Michael Jordan joined the Chicago Bulls, he played for Team USA. In the build-up to the ‘84 Olympics, MJ did a photo shoot for LIFE Magazine where he was pictured leaping through the air with a basketball. It was the first time MJ was photographed doing what is now known as the Jumpman pose. It inspired Nike designers Peter Moore and Tinker Hatfield, who were working on the Air Jordan 3 at the time, to place the Jumpman silhouette on the tongue of the shoe. The rest, as they say, is history.
