When brothers Abraham and William Feinbloom founded the Knickerbocker Knitting Company in Rochester, NY, in 1919, they scarcely could’ve imagined it turning into one of the longest tenured sportswear companies in existence. But when the company changed its name to Champion Knitwear in 1923 and began including athletic wear into its clothing mix, the legacy began to take shape.
Champion gets taken to school
Champion began with sweatshirts, which along with T-shirts are among the most versatile and traditional apparel pieces in sportswear.
There’s a reason those sweatshirts became so popular among college athletic programs. The University of Michigan entered into an agreement with Champion to provide its Wolverine teams with athletic wear. Champion’s wear was even adopted by the US Military Academy.
Branching out
Champion sweatshirts give you a prime mix of warm-up wear or street-casual style. The hoodie is the most on-trend thing going, and Champion has them as a staple. Whether you choose the single-colour look with the small “C” logo or the larger “Champion” script emblazoned across the chest, you’ll show you appreciate a historic, legacy look.
Nothing offers a more reliable and versatile layered look than T-shirts, and Champion’s styles are as consistent as its sweats. Short sleeves and long, Champion tees also offer that familiar script wordmark.
Along with zip-up tops for extra layering, you can complete your Champion look with jogger pants. They’re ideal for pre, during, or post-workouts, or even just chilling in comfort.
And don’t forget the details. You can wear that heritage Champion script on caps and visors, and you can show that “C” on backpacks and waist packs and festival bags.
